America Challenges Japan in Fuel Efficiency

Written by: Jimmy Sesto

I am here to set the record straight about America's 5 auto makers. Of course Detroit's Big Three plus Tesla Motors and Fisker Automotive. The Japanese certainly started the trend of fuel efficient vehicles but Americans are in the process of passing. Tesla and Fisker produce nothing but electric vehicles although on a small scale with Fisker selling their first this year and Tesla approaching a rate of 2000 vehicles per year. Back to Detroit; I hate to admit it but Fiat killed Chrysler's hybrid and electric vehicle department to focus on getting the company where it needs to be. Fix the company and then make better cars, I can live with that. GM has the electric Volt coming out this year along with the Chevy Cruze that is rumored to get 45 mpg on a gas engine. GM's new 304hp Camaro gets 29 mpg. Ford came out with the 365hp EcoBoost engine that gets 25 mpg and the Fiesta that gets 39 mpg. They have a new Focus coming out that runs on electric and a diesel Focus that gets 63 mpg. They also are testing hydrogen Explorer's currently. Looks to me like somebody not only showed up to play but win.
